Avatar Ignite Participant Spotlight: Merlin Lukose

Merlin Lukose was one of the CRIN-supported participants who pitched their innovative business solutions to experts during Avatar Innovation Inc.’s Shark Tank. She was part of the FlexConnect team. Lukose talked to CRIN about her experience in the Avatar Ignite program.

    About Merlin Lukose:

I am currently part of the forecasting and fundamentals team at TC Energy, focusing on understanding natural gas supply and demand dynamics. I pursued my education in petroleum engineering from the University of Calgary and previously worked as a subsurface engineer in upstream development and exploration, which laid the groundwork for my career in the oil and gas industry. Over the years, my passion for innovative solutions in clean energy has steered my career toward sustainability and technology integration.

What was the Ignite experience like?

Participating in the Avatar Ignite program was a transformative experience for me. These gatherings brought together global experts and industry leaders who shared invaluable insights into leadership, the dynamics of energy transition, and strategic career navigation within the industry. The exposure to such diverse perspectives not only enriched my understanding but also significantly enhanced my capability to contribute to innovative solutions in the energy landscape.

What was the most unique aspect of the business solution your team pitched to the Sharks?

The most unique aspect of this business solution lies in its integration of automated demand response technology with advanced predictive analytics, specifically tailored for the supermarket sector. This dual approach not only optimizes energy management but also proactively engages supermarkets in grid stabilization efforts without impacting their operational continuity.

What are the next steps for you?

Moving forward, I am pursuing an MBA at the University of Illinois to complement my technical expertise with robust business acumen. This education will prepare me to take on formal leadership roles within TC Energy, where I aim to lead initiatives that bridge the gap between traditional energy practices and sustainable innovation.

Is there anything else you'd like to add?

Reflecting on my journey, I am immensely grateful to the Clean Resource Innovation Network (CRIN) for their support that made it possible for me to pursue this unique opportunity. I also want to thank my leaders at TC Energy, who have enthusiastically encouraged my participation and I look forward to contributing to the company mission of carbon-free energy solutions that supports the transition to a cleaner energy future.
